Re: Cairngorms Loop

You don't often read "the heat was getting to me" on a report of Cairngorm riding in April!

Photo's are really good. Thank you for the post.

Re: Woods Rat Run - one goes slightly carefree in Dorset

There is some single track in Wareham Forest but its mainly in the Northern side called Gore Heath. Unfortunately during lockdown FE destroyed a lot of it in a ludicrous attempt to stop people going outdoors, and it has only partially regenerated. What is left generally gets trashed by eMTB's in the...

Yeah, and I think it's a pretty ugly bike as well - but I don't like Pinarello styling of any of their bikes to be honest. I thought it was just me! Theres not one Pinarello bike I could say looked anything but plain minging. At that price range I just don't get it. I think it's the opposite, world...

Re: Water Filter

When I did the Badger last July in very warm weather (mid 20's!!) most of the lochs I passed had warnings of Blue Green algae contamination. My understanding is that most filtration devices take out the organism but not the toxins produced.I was using a Water to Go bottle. I ended up knocking on som...

Re: Badger Divide - S-N edition.

Some great images Rich. When I did the N-S version the biggest problem I faced was lack of water in the 25 degrees plus temperatures. Pretty unusual for Scotland! Planning to come back this year for the Cairngorm loop. Outer only!

When Sean was a young lad he did one of our Sunday 25 mile TT's. He beat the entire field by 5 minutes. Time keeper accused him of cutting the course

Re: Narrow-wide chainrings

Just to agree with those above, I usually ride a NW front ring with clutch mech off. I started not using the clutch routinely when the clutch on an XT rear mech wore to the point it was no longer functional. Even when completely knackered I had no chain drop. Have had no problems with chain drop and...

Re: Trailmech hubs

I've often seen Hunt wheels criticised for using Novatech hubs and I do wonder, does it really matter what the hubs are? Perhaps someone who understands this better than I do can explain what a hub does other than provide a housing for bearings and freewheels and an anchor point for the spokes. So, ...

I took a pair of Rene Herse Fleecer Ridge off my Mason ISO and replaced them with TLR 2.1 Mezcals. The change to the bike was amazing, particularly in speed. Also, they have been the easiest tyres I have ever fitted tubeless (Hunt Boost wide rims) They went up first time with a track pump only. Just...

I did London to Inverness. Train itself is fine, seats reasonable. Despite that I didn't sleep a wink, and was very uncomfortable. Not helped by someone loosing it at 1 in the morning! Day 1 of the Badger Divide was a struggle but i did have 10 hours sleep that night

Re: chain wax anyone ?

I've been using Putoline hot wax bath for about three years now and I'm very happy with it. I live in South Dorset were a lot of my local riding and in the New Forest is sandy and I was getting through a chain (>1.0 on chain growth) every two months. Since I've changed to Putoline I get about six mo...

Bike in a cardboard box on a train

I'm intending doing the Badger divide in June from Inverness. I had hoped to take the overnight train up from the south coast but when I went to book it said no bikes were allowed on the train except for folders. So my question is, can I take my bike apart and put it into a cardboard box? Does this ...

Specialized Storm Control 29x 2.0

Niner Air9c mainly used as a winter bike. Would definitely use wider tyres if the bike was used more year round.
