Re: Muru Witjira Classic - titanium fatbike
If you ever want to run a Rohloff though you can. I’ve have a 170/135 and have no issues with it. Plan sometime to swap over to a Rohloff XL at some stage.

Re: Packable footwear
Thanks, I was kinda on the right path then. The Decathlon 5£ aqua shoes look like they would be the most packable so will more than likely go with something like that.

Packable footwear
What does everyone use as footwear when they get where they are going? I don't really want to be walking around in my SPDs. Ideally looking for something that can be flattened to make packing simple. I was considering something like this... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07NW2GSFT/?coliid=IF20IZ6Y9GMD...

Re: Eurostar Fully Assembled
During the booking process they kept saying 90 minutes. I was hoping that would be enough but maybe I should give them 120 to be safe.

Good stuff. That’s what I was hoping! I’ll try and find that place in advance just so there is no faffing on the morning. It’s an early start.

Eurostar Fully Assembled
I’m heading off to the Ardennes in Belgium on the 8th and have booked my bike on the Eurostar assembled. Has anyone done this before? All I could find with the search was tales of boxed etc. If so, any recommendations?

I’d be interested in this. I’ve ridden lots of it here and there but a loop would be great.

Re: Best paper maps for Ardennes + place to park in Liege?
I’ll be doing that exact route myself with a friend starting on May 8th. He’s not into the camping part and so we are credit carding it. I’ll be using Komoot and a Beeline. He’ll be using a Wahoo and something like Ride With GPS. I think pretty much anything that can route off-road and have download...

Re: One bike only?
I just use one bike. A Ritchey Commando. Fat wheels for winter and 29er wheels for summer. I’m not a big fan of cycling on roads and so sold off all other gear. Only upgrade I can think of is to get some wider rims as it would be great to be able to run 29+ as well as the 2.4 XKings on there I think...

Re: New Bivi Bag time..
Has anyone ever made their own bivvy? On the face of it it seems insanely easy to anyone that could operate a sewing machine. Get a BA bag maybe to use as template?

Re: Kamoot for navigating
I’ve been using Komoot and like it also. Was thinking of getting something like a Beeline with the route loaded on there and only using the phone when directions aren’t clear to save some battery. Will have to experiment!

Re: Isle of Wight, two day loop
Perfect, thanks for the help. I'll get the Wightlink then as it sounds like a safer bet for the bike. It is in-fact easier from the train station anyway and so win win. Those routes look good. I'll try and copy some of the sections out of them. Ideally I would want to be doing about 80km per day as ...

Isle of Wight, two day loop
Considering a two day loop of the IOW in April. I haven’t got much experience of bikepacking and so was considering a campsite rather than a sneaky bivvy. Day 1 Hovercraft to Ryde. Anti-clockwise then to Shanklin, Niton. Stop at campsite (Grange Farm, Brightstone). Day 2 Brightstone to needles, Yarm...

I’m waiting for someone to start 3D printing them. If rocket engines can be built this way then I’m sure the humble cassette is possible.

Ritchey Commando at Temple of the Winds, Blackdown. Cloud inversion was nice that morning. Can just see Ditchling Beacon and Chanctonbury Ring on the horizon. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1951/44250124894_8bbe36929d_z.jpg Bike is leaning against this... https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1967/44969426...

Re: WTD - speedplay cleats
The cleats are almost bigger than the pedals. A few people I know have had issues from road pedals. It’s usually the lack of float. Look Keo have a cleat with more float but my recommendation goes to MTB pedals like Shimano SPD and I believe Time MTB have a lot of float. Bonus is that you won’t have...
