Re: Mtb route around Weston Super Mare or/and Cardiff
There is some good riding to be had up on the Mendips but not if it’s been wet as the mud has superglue properties up there. I’d head to the Quantocks (near Taunton), lots of route options and it drains much better than the mendips. North of Cardiff, there is a ton of trails and terrain. Cwm carn tr...

Re: sleeping problems and cures ?
When I struggle to sleep for early starts, I try and think of the following which was some wisdom passed on by a psychiatrist.
“The human body can perform well, without any sleep for 24hours”. This stops the worry of not getting enough sleep to function the next day.

Park overnight in Powys?
Hi longtime lurker here
I’m planning a two day trip around the Gap and Black mountains (110km, 4500m) but am struggling where to leave the car, probably going to start in Crickhowell, which has a long stay car park.
I can’t seem to find how to pay for two days parking anywhere.
Any ideas?

I wouldn’t mind riding solo between campsites...it’s the wild camping that I’d probably struggle with solo.

I still haven’t been, what many on here would class as ‘proper’ bikepacking, yes I’ve done a B&B assisted trans Cambrian, which was great but unfortunately my riding chum has done his back in and there is no sign of it getting fixed  Not having riding buddies is what is stopping me doing a ...

Re: Pimp my breakfast
On my IOW tour, I took some Rude health bircher muesli. Was a bit sceptical at first but mixed with some honey and just some warm water, five minutes later, it was actually edible and I was quite shocked at how tasty it was. Did try it on the last day without honey and it wasn’t as nice, so deffo re...

Re: Bar tape recommendations
I use Zipp Service Course tape. It's my one little luxury on what is otherwise a pretty workhorsey build. https://www.sram.com/en/zipp/models/ac-sc-tape-a1 Along with some gel pads. They've survived being retaped/swapped over different bars at least half a dozen times. https://www.pro-bikegear.com/...

Re: Gravel Gearing....again
it was interesting to see on Bikepacking.com that GRX Di2 can cope with a 40 cassette on 2X with some work. There's a few folk running 40x cassettes on 2x systems (me included). I use 50/34 105 cranks and a Ultegra rear mech. It's very likely that GRX cranks and rear mech would work too, I've just ...
