Re: Wot no TCRNo7 thread!?
I've been watching. It's been interesting seeing some really experienced guys scratching after only a few days. Fiona is a very experienced Audaxer but for her first ultra she is doing amazing.

Re: XC 29er tyre Recommendations Please
I spent years on Ralph's but more recently am using Maxxis Pace on the rear and Schwalbe Rocket Ron on the front. The Pace is heavier but also has more substantial sidewals. The Ron clears mud nad grips slightly better than the Ralph. I wouldn't use a Pace on the front, as they don't give the same c...

Re: New Bivi Bag time..
I have the Helium and it has some positives and 1 negative. It is big enough to get a mat in and doesn't take 2 mins to set the hoop and pegs. Being able to have it zipped to net or solid to keep rain out is ideal if you don't want to tarp. The only down side for me is that when closing with the net...

Re: Podsacs aux handlebar bag anyone?
Yes I have one. The straps and clips are 20mm. There is only one at the bottom so I modified to make straps that go fully around by front roll to hold it on.
A decent bag for the money.

Re: Mountain Warehouse down sleeping bags and bivi bags
I've got one and am pleased with it. It's not for poor weather but OK above around 8 degrees. I use a liner to add warmth and take a down jacket always so have extra warmth if needed. I used this setup with my bivvy on the TNR last year. I was never cold. I have a warmer bag which doesn't weigh much...

Re: Brake pads
Uberbike RaceMatrix pads are by far the best I have tried....and I have tried a lot. Nothing will give a long term fix if you are leaking fluid but these give a great bite and no squeal if kept clean

I'm guessing you must be SJ then, as the other 2 UK entrants are me and a mate.Growler wrote:Bugger it, I'm in.

Re: Torino nice who's doing it this yr
I've finally made it back to Blighty and about to find out if the bike survived. I think this journey has been more tiring than the TNR itself. Driving out with the wife was a great idea, although the week of horse riding cost about the same as a new bike. Glad you got home OK. Would be great to me...

Re: Torino nice who's doing it this yr
Great to meet you Steve, and a huge amount of respect for riding as fast as you were with all the gear you were carrying. You're clearly an extremely strong rider. Thanks Richard. I will travel lighter next time, although I did use everything I carried (except the spare tube). I hope the bike box w...

Re: Torino nice who's doing it this yr
It was great to met Richard, Phil and Scatta. I hope to get out on some BB rides next year, as I have caught the bug. Clearly I need to work on the TLS aspect as my 23kg loaded bike was a haul up some of the climbs. Hope you all got home with bikes in one piece. I’m still sat in Nice having a cold b...

Re: Another tubeless question
Depends on the rim but better if it’s full width as the tyre can them seal against the tape.
Loose tyres can require a couple of wraps.

Re: Torino nice who's doing it this yr
Having just finished a supported LEJOG, I can feel I have more training to do. The hills were OK but I didn’t have a bike full of luggage (although I did use the gravel bike with 40mm treads) Our biggest day of 80 miles and just shy of 4000ft of climbing makes it very flat compared to TNR. Time to h...

Please tell me it is OK to use paper. Otherwise I need to learn to shake hands with my left

Re: Torino nice who's doing it this yr
Email received. Tomato hostel already booked. The wife is driving me to Turin and back from Nice, as I conveniently booked her a week horse riding near Lake Garda. :-bd I'm hoping to do 7 days but it will depend on my legs. If it takes longer, she will be allowed extra riding days. Still not sure wh...

I’ve managed to swing it so I can get there early on Friday. I wish I had bought tickets for Marcus Stitz now but he’s sold out.
Looking forward to the ride. This fine weather has ended the tent or tarp dilemma.

Re: Extender sprocket
Sell the extender and buy a SunRace cassette. That way you don't get any big gaps just sensible increments. Simple. Far better idea than an extender. If you want to go even cheaper, I bought a Sunshine cassette off eBay to test if my roadlink would work with 40 teeth. I didn't expect to keep it but...

I'm clearly working too hard as I only just noticed this post. I am booked to ride and have a room sorted at the Tomato. Driving down with the wife, who will then drive on to Garda for a week of horse riding. She will drive down and met me in Nice after 7 days. Good plan to allow some flexibility an...

Re: Tubeless "gravel" tyres?
They roll quite well. Better than the CX tyres I had one. I will be using them for the Torin Nice Rally, which is around 75% asphalt.PaulE wrote:The Ellwood look interesting - how fast do they roll on road, as I'd be commuting on them and it's about 75% tarmac...
