Re: Winter Bivvy '24
Hi Max :-H I can't make the 7th/8th but could do 12th/13th. That said I can't make any commitments with what's going on with my Dad just now so will be a case of me turning up if I can! I'll ruminate on some venues but bothying is getting a bit more of a dubious option these days, in terms of a gro...

Re: Samhain Scotland weekender
Just spent 3 nights up Loch Etive. Finished yesterday. (By kayak though). A great place for a lochside fire. It's Scotland, don't listen to the others. There is a great beach north of where the Kinglass enters. It's a couple of km long, so always some drift wood. But the trail to it may be too tame...

Nice! I'm too well aware how fortunate I am to live in this truly beautiful spot. It rains a bit, but when it isn't its spectacular! You will have caught the recent spell of dry weather! Know the spot you speak of, glen kinglass is a braw spot.

Re: Samhain Scotland weekender
Hi Keith! Couldnt really class me as fast these days, but even when fit like the occasional steady one to get time to appreciate the views. Let me know where is good for you? Havent done much at all in the area so be mostly new. I stay on Southern edge of loch etive so we must be fairly close. Hopef...

Samhain Scotland weekender
Thinking of being part of a group ride for Samhain, with possibility of celebrations round a fire. Based in Argyll and can travel within local and neighbouring counties. Did think of the Southern loop of HT550 for an idea, any takers?

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
I'm on the PC for a change and glad of it for that sunset pic Jimmy. I made a return trip along the canal to where a couple of friends were building a hut last year. https://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=313054#p313054 They've only gone and finished it, with wood burning stove, ...

Re: This year's set-up
Yeah same philosophy, without judgement I find it interesting how others do it. Ticking over another 365 days on this sphere at midnight and as standard bought myself a gift to celebrate, which is a new frame. Needing to get back more into outdoors life including getting some experiences on the bike...

What makes frames unsuitable for a front mech? Chainline? Bought a new frame and bit miffed that manufacturer specifies unsuitable for a front mech, might try it non the less and see.

Re: Bikepacking mistakes you’ve made
On my last one night trip things taught me a few lessons. Left the house mid afternoon, in an area I know quite well so no need to have a route marked on the GPS. Weather was great, if warm and still is your thing. Had a bivi location in mind, and got there about 90 mins before dark, perfect. As the...

Re: Is a Fargo unique?
As a (steel) Fargo rider i’d like to say that it’s not a gravel bike. It’s a mountain bike that happens to have geo for drop bars. It’s got far more in common with the XC/adventure MTB’s of the late 90’s than a modern gravel bike. I’ve used mine for all the stuff I used to use my Marzocchi Bomber e...
