Re: Wildlife
Out for a ride exploring down in Croatia yesterday, when passing through a village i saw this wandering into the road, quick stop, check for cars, on about a kilometre away so jumped off the bike and did a bit of foot stomping to get it to turn around and back into the hedge from whence it came. Must...

Bear in mind I'm more at the bimbly sit back and enjoy the scenery end of bikepacking. Got back into cycling after a long hiatus in 2016. Three bikes with discs as follows. 2016. Kona Sutra (touring) Hayes CX perfectly adequate, enough stopping power for touring and gravel use, definitely better tha...

Re: cheap packable down/insulated clothing ??
Would second what Stu says. I've a MT500 insulated jacket (about 35 notes) and matching gilet both sufficiently warm for my needs and excellent value. At the other end of the scale I did try on their Simond Makalu jacket last winter, but I think that would be more suited to an arctic winter than moo...

Re: Wildlife
Saw my first ever Dipper when camping at Culra. Surprised that I’d never seen one before. Pretty much common all over the Scottish Highlands Bob, used to see lots in Glen Etive and Glencoe when going for a dip after a climb. However the best ever view I had of Dippers was in Portree where a bridge ...

This is going to be hard to explain. In the evening, just after it gets dark, I hear something that sounds like a boomerang whizzing around in loops. Any ideas? Do I have bat ears? Hi Rasta, when i heard your description I thought it might have been a snipe? https://www.british-birdsongs.uk/snipe/ ...

Re: Trousers for wearing post cycling on bikepacking
On the odd trip I might through in a pair of lightweight shorts (cheapest Decathlon ones from their trekking section are fairly lightweight) when bikepacking, usually so I can give the cycling shorts a rinse and the nether regions a breather. For sea kayaking though I got a pair of cheap Hi Gear tre...

Re: Budget Baselayers
Since you mentioned Decathlon! I have two merino baselayers from their Forclaz (trekking) range. Longsleeve v neck and a short sleeve crew neck. Very comfy and not too warm. About 25 and 20 GBP respectively iirc. At the moment here they both seem to be reduced a bit, may not be case in UK of course. P

Great to see a newly restored bothy in such a great location. A group of my climbing buddies and I bivvied in it about 25 or so years ago when we did the Tilt, Geldie/Feshie, Tromie loop (on bike). It was more or less OK (iirc) then apart from the absence of door and windows. Next night was at Mileh...

Thanks Colin, for the info, I had noticed a difference in the VV site layout last week and wondered where KML files had gone. He has now introduced a logarithmic scale, or rather a "flatten spikes" option. I've got two spikes, the obvious one at home and the other around the mother in laws...

All this talk of werewolves reminded me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaXmIPHrHmY Imagine that a few metres from your bivvy. It's the input frothe Hungarian person further down that really makes me want to decide against it. Well, this Hungarian resident loves riding in Hungary! I've got a Zip Roll which I sometime attach to the handlebars. I use a couple of those nylon straps that came with a rucsac for attching stuff (e.g. crampons / trekking poles). They do the job. Similar sort of strap for attaching the seatpost strap to the headtube, but in this case I've spaced it ou...

Could it be a combination of bar rotation and or hood position? I have the forward curve leading into the drops ser horizontal and the hoods rising slightly from that. Spring is in the air, so to speak! Was down the town last week and noticed that all the Long Eared owls had disapeared from their usual roosting haunts. Like the look of that rack. The product description says max tyre size of 2.5. Any chance you could check clearance for me, I'm running WTB Rangers at 3 in. on the front of my Longitude. Thanks.

What Colin describes is an excellent trip, though I didn't do the bit over the hill from Tromie Bridge to Glen Feshie, instead taking the road around ( I wasn't aware of that variant at that time 2017 or 18 I think). I was using the route (more or less) as descibed in "Scotland Mountain Biking:...

I have the Revelate Pika and at 167cm tall riding 27.5+ there's enough clearance about 5cm or so. Backcountry.scot gives the Revelate guidelines for saddle rail to tyre clearance.

Ton,
If you are not in a hurry Ali Express sellers often sell their tents with a choice of inners, ie you can have an outer tent only.
I have a trailstar clone, which a few years back cost me £45 including delivery. Tons of space and headroom, also, very storm proof.
