I have the 'large' one, it's excellent, I really like the food bag on top and the way it attaches, so simple yet secure. August and Patagonia could be an interesting combo... I cycled the Carratera Austral in Decmber-January last year and there was snow at the most southerly point. Highly recommend the trip though, fairly easy logistics, and camping is stop anywhere you want and pitch up - weather might be a bit extre...

I work as a lead engineer in NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) for a fairly well known car manufacturer, I'm really tempted to take an objective measure of carbon versus ally handle bars for curiositys sake. Vibration comfort is basically my day job! Any particular bars people are interested in?

Have you thought about the width of the shoe? I find that most manufacurers of SPD shoes generally make quite narrow shoes and this can cause my toes to go numb.
