Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Not been doing much bike packing or even cycling for a over a year since Mrs512 became pregnant and the subsequent arrival of baby512 but this weekend I'm getting back out for a bivvy. 13 miles each way with a pub stop half way is about all my body can handle (a trip to the fat fighters thread may b...

Re: First Motor
Worth adding the Fiat Doblo to the list. :-bd I have a Fiat Qubo, it's like the Doblos little brother, 1.3 Multijet diesel gives me 50mpg on my 80 mile round trip commute, £20 a year to tax and £300 a year to insure with no no-claims bonus as I hadn't driven in over 10 years. I've just bought a new...

WTD: 120mm 29er suspension fork
Picked up some cheap 29er wheels to put on my Ramin 3+ so I'm looking for some suspension forks to use with them. 120mm travel, 9mm qr, 29/27.5+ wheel size, cheap!
Anyone got anything lying in the spares box looking for a new home? Don't need to be anything fancy, just a functional set of forks

Another vote for Sandwood bay, it's the one place I want to go once we're allowed out proper!

Off camping tonight straight after work, first time since January! Just stuffed all my gear in a backpack last night so my bike is still ready for a group ride tomorrow morning but short cycle in, hammock up, few beers then kip, can't wait!

Otherwise mostly route related - taking the fatbike from Oldeshoremore to Cape Wrath up the coastline. I know it will be a total mission but the thought of the scenery and isolation is un-shakeable. It's an vaguely exciting part of the world Phil, one of the places I want to head for once lockdown ...

A 10l backpack from Decathlon is £1.99 and 52g. Surprisingly comfy too for such a cheap, thin thing. You could buy Stu's tarp from the Classified section. That's pretty cheap. I have one of these that I stuff in the bottom of my frame bag, takes up no space at all and is great for a raid on the spa...

Re: Alternative BAM
I gave up a 3 year run at bivvy a month to try bothy a month with Mrs 512 and the kids. We walked to some and cycled to some and made it to June before life got in the way and we've not managed to visit one together since. I don't hold out much hope for this year either, we've just bought a new hous...

I'll be along all going well, thinking I'll ride in on Borderer's route as well. I should be able to squeeze one more into my wee van if you'd like a lift Ray?

Thanks Chaps, I'll see what I can do. I won't be venturing into any mud with it, I've a Ramin for that sort of nonsense but I found the 38c's pretty unforgiving on wind farm tracks and such like. I'll maybe just try a set of 40c on the wheels I have and see if that makes a difference.

Re: Gravel+???
Second, will I squeeze a pair of G One Bite 2.1's in there? In the 2017 and onward bikes yes but it'll be dry conditions only sort of fit on the rear. Ah, it's a 2015 model, what'll I manage to shoe horn in there? Figured the axel adapter would be OK but knowing my luck I'd buy the only sub standar...

Morning All, I've got an old pair of 650B wheels up in the loft I'm thinking of sticking on my Arkose to give me a bit more volume on the rougher rides but I've a couple of questions first. Firstly has anyone used a 15mm to QR conversion kit? Do they work OK? Any one particularly good or should be a...

Strapped some bivvy gear to the Ramin and I'm heading out to Dryfehead bothy for the first bikepacking trip of the year, gone from 37 months BAM in a row to once in 5 months!
Thoroughly looking forward to it!

Re: Rear Rack a Retrograde Step?
Looks like a neat solution Ray, I had to retire my Alpkit dry bag as it had reached the end of it's life. I've "upgraded" to the Blackburn Outpost pack and I've found it can swing around a bit unless well packed.

My recommendation is the Sango Sands campsite in Durness. I didn’t camp there but dined and drank. The food was great and it was somewhat surprising to find Kozel on draught there. I'll second this, it was the best campsite we visited. Also if you get a chance walk out to Sandwood bay, it's amazing...

Never really thought of it to be honest , my wife and daughter yes they often come out with if I had the cash , but me and the youngfella are a bit if it's not broken or worn out I don't need it ,and that's not being frugal if I see a need for something and the cash is available I buy it,maybe I sh...
