Re: YAL 200km South Wales route, April 2015
Thats what I was thinking about the route and timing ect. It's just a ride with some people taking part. I ride forest roads all the time, and apart from the harvesting, I never have any problems. I'll aim to ride most of the route a week or 2 before to check its all open. I'm not sure of the date y...

Re: YAL 200km South Wales route, April 2015
Thanks for the interest. Haha, the Sarn Helen Descent down to Neath.... I wouldnt want to impose that on anyone that wasnt riding a full suspension bike, and certainly not loaded up! . Its pretty trashed from 4x4's and mx bikes. As for Fan Fraith, it's an amazing forest road, but it goes a bit out t...

YAL 200km South Wales route, April 2015
You're Afan a Laugh 200km I'm a long time lurker of this fine forum, and have decided to say hello and see if anyone is interested in a bikepacking ride around the Afan, Neath, Rhonnda and Llynfi valleys. I havent taken part in any of the organised rides through the forum, so noone on here knows me ...

Re: 'Adventure' reading list
My absolute favorite adventuring book has to be
Clear Waters Rising by Nicholas Crane.
An amazing journey across europe in the 80's.
Also :
Atlas Biker: Mountain Biking in Morocco
by the same author. Hilarious photos of old bikes and kit, and a pretty epic journey.

Re: Hennesy Hammocks
Hi I've had one for a few years. Very well made and easy to use, if a little portly. As I'm over 6', I had to get the Explorer Deluxe Asym Classic, at 1.5kg. I really like the bug netting and velcro bottom closure. Just sit inside it and the bring your legs in and your sealed away nicely. The tarp g...

Bivvy trip to Blaen Cwm Du
This is a ride I did last year, which I posted on http://www.Crazyguyonabike.com
I was going to repost all of it onto here, but its easier(for me!) to just post the link:
https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/?o= ... 13267&v=1k
Hope you enjoy it.

Re: ROW in Ireland
There are no bridleways in Southern Ireland. There are real issues with land usage for anyone other than walkers over there. The Forestry Commission allows use of forest roads in some of their forests, but not all, from what I have read. I don't know for a fact what the law is, but it is certainly d...

Re: Anyone use a tent while bikepacking?
Mmm, that Vango is looking pretty nice...Especially the Helium Carbon... Sub 1kg tents just amaze me. They put the cost and weight of a Hilleberg Akto to shame. And thank you or the advice. It is as I thought, the Easton is just too expensive even with a discount. I'll have to do some more research....

Re: On One Inbred choice..
Hi Jack, I had an older model 26" Inbred in 18", which I guess is a Medium, and being 6'1" it was pretty small for me. Thats the main reason why I sold it, and the fact that I had too many bikes! Personally I would go for a large and put a shorter stem on it, like a 60mm or so, and th...

Re: PSA MYOG VX21 fabric resiliance...
Thanks for the heads-up! Aha! Thats why most manufacturers use a Cordura type material for the parts of the bag that touch the frame. I had wondered, and when I recently made my own with Vx21 i used some Cordura in those places. I'm sure that the innertube repairs will be solid, as the rubber should...

Re: Anyone use a tent while bikepacking?
Yeah its a big wedge of cash to outlay, for as you say, not light enough for the retail price. Its probably just the trade price and the carbon pole thats got me thinking... Those Six Moons ones are amazingly light, and compared to the Easton ones, abit of a bargain! (Although I wouldn't want to get...

Re: Anyone use a tent while bikepacking?
Has anyone had any experience of Easton tents? (Specifically the Kilo 1P) I have found one of the suppliers in the shop I work in, Madison, sells these tents now. (Excuse my ignorance if these are brand new, and no one will have any experience. Cant tell from the searches I have done) They look pret...

Re: Anyone use a tent while bikepacking?
To be honest, I haven't really kept up on the new tent designs in the last few years, after spending a wedge on a Hilleberg Nallo 2, 5 years ago. The Nallo is great for cycle touring for a few weeks, but I barely use it now, since I've got into shorter/lighter types of nights out. After reading the ...

Anyone use a tent while bikepacking?
I feel this might be a question like 'Does anyone use panniers for bikepacking?' , but for some conditions they are pretty essential/Or am i just showing my age/Or should I just mtfu.... I am interested because there are some seriously light tents out there, sub 1.5kg, and when your taking a bivvy b...

Re: Welsh Ride Thing 2012
Just finished my route, although it all depends on the weather... All the GR's, 230km with 7800m climbing! I know i can manage the mileage, but i dont know whether I can handle the climbing, especially with gear on the bike as well. Just kinda joined the dots, but of course if it all goes tits up I ...

Re: How much stuff can you get in your frame bag?
My frame bag has saved my back alot of pain by having everything on the bike. Day ride today in the woods clearing fallen trees from trails, I had: 3l water bladder, tools and spare tube, Gransfors Bruks Small forest Axe, folding saw, Honey stove, Crusader cup and lid ( with tea and lemon inside) a ...

Hello, From what I have read, I believe you can wild camp anywhere (in France anyway) above 2500 metres. I cant remember where I read that, but probably in a guide book.... Above that height, I cant imagine that you would be bothered by anyone anyway, especially if your only there for a night. I kno...

Funny you say nothing new.. I read a book a few years ago called 'Around the World on a Wheel' from 1896. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Round-World-Wheel-Foster-Fraser/dp/0701126094 - It was an ok read, but mainly it was an amazing journey, as they did it on single speed behemoths with full chain cases an...

Re: Anyone ordered a Surly Pugsley/Moonlander?
I was thinking the same thing about the BIG rims. Rather expensive to replace... My reasoning behind initially going for the Moonlander frameset was that it could take the Clownshoe rims but could fit the smaller ones as well. And of course when you're planning to ride in difficult terrain, clearanc...

Anyone ordered a Surly Pugsley/Moonlander?
Earlier today i tried to order a Moonlander frameset, but they have all been pre-ordered! And all the Pugsley frames on this shipment! I had to order a full bike (Pugsley Black Ops)in the end as all the Moonlander full bikes have gone as well.... Not what i really wanted, but I didnt fancy waiting t...

Re: Hammocks.
Got myself a Hennesey hammock a few years ago. Its pretty nifty, especially with the built in mossy net, but I dont use it that much as it weighs more than a bivvy bag and sleeping pad combo, and I also have to bring extra insulation for the bottom. I had a funny experience on the Gower with it tho....
