Re: Clearout (racks, luggage, tyres, bars + levers)
I'll take the handlebar bag, if it's still available. (Sick of fishing camera out of over-stuffed luggage!)
Drop me a message with PayPal details and I'll get the dosh across later today.

Re: Off-road/minor road JOGLE route
....if you are keen to camp the first night it would still be worth heading on a further 2k or so to Cearnsary. There's a cracking spot to camp next to the estate buildings there. Don't think they're really used much. Good green sward of grass for pitching up on, and couple of trees for shelter.

Re: Off-road/minor road JOGLE route
Nice route. If you knock out a few more miles on the first day there is a cracking bothy just a little further on(though they are threatening to close it due to issues of litter), but if you prefer to camp it is a lovely spot next to the red roofed estate building. PM me if you're interested in the ...

Classy
Think mje25 is going to be emailing me pics of his XTs, but if that doesn't work out I might be interested.

WTD XT 9 speed shifter set
Well, try as I might I'm just not getting on with microshifters on my new Ogre.
Before I fork out on buying them new - has anyone got an old pair of 3x9 speed XT shifters?
(I'd probably be interested in just the rear shifter if need be, but pair would be ideal)

I'd also be interested in a single blunt rim if you'd be willing to spilt.

Cheers motorman. Sadly, their website is out of date. Called them first thing this morning, but out of stock.

2015 Longitude. Still available?
Anyone know if any retailers out there got one of the last 2015 longitudes (19")? Would need to be signed up to the cycle to work scheme. ('cos it would be used exclusively for travelling to and from work
) I'm guessing I've missed the boat, but worth asking.

Re: Writing up trips and ways of presenting them
Viewing on iPad I much preferred the vertical version. For some reason the horizontal didn't fit well with the screen aspect.
Looks like a great trip.

Re: www.backpackinglight.co.uk heads up
Used Bob and Co a number of times over the years. Always had great service. Just this week I emailed them for some help with a travel tap bottle I'd bought off them a while back (fantastic product btw and despite it's barrelish looks it sits quite snugly in a bottle carrier). I'd accidently chucked ...

Re: helmet, yes or no?
I have a gigantic head, on top of a skinny body, so I always look daft with my super sized helmet on. Yet these dates I wear it at all times, except occasionally on a sweaty uphill. Only had one spill where I reckon it may have saved me from proper damage..... But I reckon that's 'nuff already!

Re: Outdoors Grub no more
Good stuff. I guess the other advantage of homemade in a pour and store bag is that they'll pack a lot better. Have always found that vacuum packed foil bags of food tend not to lie neatly together when carrying enough for several days, while my muesli and trail mix - while heavy - take up much less...

Re: Outdoors Grub no more
Didn't realise those pour and store bags were heat resistant. Excellent! Had wondered before about buying a dehydrator, but wasn't sure if there was much advantage over dehydrating food in the oven. Either way there's an obvious massive cost saving over the bought bags......time to start experimenti...

Re: Outdoors Grub no more
I've always fancied trying it. The only advantage of the bought bags is the ease of not having to wash my pot at the end of the meal - am very sensitive to overtones of curry in my morning coffee
This might be the prompt I need to give it a go though.

Sad to get an email today from the excellent website outdoorsgrub, saying they're packing it in to move to France. Have used them a fair bit over the past few years for backpacking trips. Always a fast and friendly service. Had a quick look around and can't see any other uk distributor of the excell...

It's fabulous here (especially on a night with such an incredible sunset as we've just been watching tonight!), though it's mainly a bit on the agricultural side for the 'wilderness' experience

Hi....
Just saying hello. I'm a hill walker and backpacker who's gradually finding the bike is more than just a means of getting into the hills. Over the years I've gradually been won over by benefits of lightweight(ish) walking and camping. Realised I need to take this a step further if I'm to combine the...
