Re: What's the Point in Racing?
One of the virtues of racing is that it takes you out of your comfort zone. Racing is hard, it hurts and it can be intimidating, but one thing it is not, is dull. Riding for pure enjoyment is great, but staying in your comfort zone all the time would, for me at least, become boring. It's good to sha...

I'd never met Mike and was only vaguely familiar with his achievements. But I had been reading the news updates from the IndyPac and was stunned when I learnt that he'd been killed. To have his life cut short like that is just tragic. I can only imagine what his family and friends are going through....

Can anyone tell me which of the C13, C15, C17 models compare to a Charge Spoon or Knife in terms of width? Charge Knife: 145mm C13: 132mm C15: 140mm C17: 162mm I looked into this a while ago and the C15 shape / profile (front to back) is closer to the Knife than the Spoon - see below (Knife, C15, S...

Re: Tubeless Cyclocross Tires
40C Nano's are nice tyres, good on gravel, but they are not good in mud. Schwalbe X-one is 33C is a good all-round / mixed conditions tyre, but even they can get overwhelmed by lots of mud. I ran them tubeless at the 3-Peaks at 50 PSI and will do so again, given the chance. Maxxis Mud Wrestler is al...

The run that finally led to a stress fracture. Oh, that's not a good start to the new year. Not just you... In the race to the bottom, being the cheapest is all that counts... Unfortunately it's not just confined to Black Friday or any other sales period. So much is now free, virtually free or not worth anything like it used to be. When you can have anything, at anytime, anywhere, is it w...

I rode a route that last December on the CX that included the Nirvana Killer loop in the Surrey Hills and a lot of it was a sodden mud bath. Re: Heart rate monitor watch with no chest strap and beeps?
Hi, You should be able to configure your Edge 800 to give a beep alert with your HR goes over a certain level - go to menu / training / alerts. That means you can use any HR monitor with it that you like. I've only tried one wrist monitor; the MIO Link. I found that it was highly position sensitive,...

Glad you had a good time Ben.
The steepest way out of Pateley Bridge is Old Church Lane, which takes out back over the moor to Kirky Malzeard. It's one of several good climbs to do in the area if you do come back with your real bike.

Kirkby Malzeard moor is only a short distance above Masham and very quickly feels remote: https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8409/28946446172_7f1ed625cc_b.jpg Riding over the moor would drop you down into Nidderdale, as per Chew's suggestion. There's no way out of Nidderdale though without riding up hill.

Having done the Fred Whitton and La Marmotte, which was over 5,000m of climbing, I think the Whitton was actually tougher. The correlation between nominal height gain and route difficulty isn't one.

I have Auto-Pause set to "when stopped". If I were to find it pausing during long hike-a-bike sections, I'd then just change the setting to "Off".
