I'm down for the 200.
I signed up for this a few years ago, but DNS because I couldn't find any other will any other willing bodies to make the long drive up from the south.
Looking forward to it. I hope it will truly be gravel and not mud.

Re: Saddle recommendations
Has anyone had any experiences woth Ergon saddles? They seem to have a good rep? I use an Ergon on the hardtail MTB. It's worked well for me. No discomfort when used on long multiday rides. Recommended. A friend that I ride with also uses one (he recommended it to me). On the road and gravel bikes ...

Re: Rear mtb mudguard advice sought
I've got a Broken Road and I use a Mudhugger on the rear with a 29" x 2.6".
I got the longest one and then trimmed a bit off the end.
Not enough room under the fork crown on the front with 29" x 2.6" for a Mudhugger, so use an old Crud guard strapped to the down tube.

Re: bikepacking .com
Good thread! I like bikepacking.com. I most appreciate the "Rigs of the <insert event name here>" that they do. Very reminiscent of the old Fully Loaded Touring site (...which was life goal of mine to be featured on  ) Interesting to read fatbikephil's comment: They all seem to be ab...

This was in those toilets... might be worth throwing them a couple of quid as you valued them. Thanks for that. I transferred them a few £, so hopefully this fine establishment can be enjoyed by future generations of Bear Boners (err.. no puns intended there!). It was so good it could be listed on ...

Re: BB200 2024
Once more unto the breach dear friends... After failing and bailing on last years 300 (lets blame the weather), I felt compelled to return to the bog. Good fun riding with a great group to Machynlleth. Mist in the valleys and golden light. From our group the trail claimed a phone, a derailleur hange...

Re: Inreach plans
Another vote for Protegear. I went with them on Alpinium's recommendation from a previous post. A bit complex initially to get your head around all of the various options, but definitely a better deal compared to Garmin's plans (for me at least). They were very helpful and were quick to answer all o...

Re: Head Torch on Helmet - any Experience please?
A timely post, as I was just looking at replacement headtorch options. I'm more after something very light weight and not too bright. I like to have a light on my head for "close quarters lighting" rather than something powerful to light up the trail. Need to be able to see the bike comput...

Re: Tour Divide 2024
Some unfortunate news from Alan Parkinson: On Tuesday he was riding to the start Calgary->Banff with one other. They were on a gravel road, but the First Nation authorities chased them off on to the Trans Canadian Highway. Not ideal, but it had a wide hard shoulder. He hit some roadside debris and w...

Re: HT550 - 2024
Bouncing dot for Matt :-bd top effort! Thanks all. The encouragement was appreciated! It got very messy at the end. My feet decided that they'd had enough reducing any walking efforts to a slow hobble. Despite outward appearances there wasn't much resilience or determination going on. I checked my ...

Re: HT550 - 2024
Due to start my ITT tomorrow morning. Did the long drive up from Hampshire today and went to the start/finish to chat to a couple of the riders coming in. All in good spirits, but all impressing upon me how hard it was. No schedule or time targets for me (aside from making it back to work on the 10t...

Re: Rigs of the 2024....TOR Divide
Very enjoyable weekend! The whole area was pretty much new to me, so every climb, descent & view was a treat. Very busy with work/life so I'd barely checked the route before starting. Approaching it with a "what will be will be" attitude which has always served me well in the past. As ...

Re: Kiddy Back tandem vs weehoo trailer thoughts
I've got a FollowMe Tandem gathering dust in my garage if you're keen. It's quite a hefty piece of kit, but it works very well for it's intended purpose: dragging them along safely on busy roads or up hills and then unclipping them and letting them ride their own bike. Mine works with QR, but it loo...

Re: Torino-Nice Rally logistics - tips?
We flew in and out of Nice and stored bike bags at a nearby hotel found on https://www.nannybag.com/ Can't remember what it cost, but IIRC it was fairly reasonable. Departed Nice as soon as the bikes were unpacked and the bags were stashed. Rode to Turin over three days, which I thoroughly recommend...

Re: HT550 - 2024
I applied and didn’t get the nod. Rather gutted as it’s been on my to do list for a few years. I hadn’t really considered how popular it’s become. 160 male entrants for 35 places. Assuming that 10 or so places will go those with proven race pedigree, the odds aren’t great for a first timer getting a...

Re: BB200 2023
That was hard. I’m encouraged to see that my impression matches the general consensus of others here. Two of us had a crack at the 300 on the second weekend and didn’t get it done. About 200km in it was obvious that we were going to be well out of time and so we pulled the plug and headed back to th...

Re: Next weekends BB200
That was fun. Cold wet & dark fun. Overall the ride went very well for me. Nothing fell off the bike or the body. Certainly it went better than previous (Green) attempts. Mercifully the rain stopped as the sun went down. I'm not sure I could have handled the rain + the cold after dark. Was very ...

Well that was fun! More fun than I bargained for as it turned out. Way past type 2 at one point. Had been feeling a bit rough on the days preceding the weekend, but felt ok on Saturday morning. ...and the box of Imodium which proclaimed "Dissolves on the tongue for instant relief!" gave me...

Two of us rode the Roam Scotland Rally last month. We were down for the 2020 event (Edinburgh to Inverness), but that did happen ...for obvious reasons. Then signed up for the 2021 West Coast and Islands. The was supposed to happen in May, but didn't ...for obvious reasons. So Rumps & I armed wi...
