I'm a Warmshowers host, but a bit off your route, I'm in Fife. I'm on the North Sea loop and on the Coast and Castles route. We see a maybe five folk a year. One stayed for a week and helped clip the topiary.

Happy days, the importer just delivered a new replacement despite it being outside their statutory warranty period.

Re: North coast 500
Here are a couple of my journals which cover parts of the NC500. There are other routes that are much quieter than the section along the north and down the east coasts. The west coast section is spectacular though and shouldn't be missed. Both trips we made were in May and midge and largely tourist ...

Exped Synmat Warranty?
I'm camping at Forth Fat. Last night my Exped Synmat started delaminating to the point where it felt like I was perched on a popping Frankfurter I've used it on probably a hundred and fifty nights. I'm wondering how good their warranty is. A quick squint online suggests they have a five year warrant...

Re: Vancouver to San Francisco
I've ridden from Anacortes down to San Francisco around the Olympic Peninsula following the ACA's maps. A couple of years ago we joined the route in Eureka CA and followed it down to Point Reyes Station. It's a cracking route with lots of state parks with hiker biker spots ( no reservation, $5 -10 a...

Re: Trans Am
I'm curious as to the 'poor' showing from Jay Petervary. He's been a consistently high finisher on the Tour Divide, I thought the TransAm would be an easier proposition, but he's been miles off the pace from the start. Has ultra endurance road riding developed some superhuman athletes that make exce...

Re: Trans Am
Glued to the blue dots. I rode the route in 2011 East to West. It's a staggeringly beautiful ride. No two days are the same, even in Kansas. For the West to East riders the challenges aren't over after Rockies and Kansas. The Ozarks in Missouri, the rollers in Kentucky and the hills through Virginia...

Harry Hall 631 54cm Touring Bike
I built this bike up a couple of years ago and its seen very little use so thought someone might make better use of it than I have. 54cm 631 Harry Hall lugless touring frame with clearance for 35mm tyres, 3 bottle bosses, front and rear rack mounts. 135mm rear hub spacing. Chris King headset. XT rea...

Re: A mouse ate a hole in my Revelate pocket - repairable?
I thought I'd stored my gear safely on a hook in the shed. A mouse managed to get up and scoff an Orlieb pannier (beyond repair) and a corner out of my Revelate pocket. I've crudely taped up the hole with spinnaker tape but don't think it will be a durable waterproof repair. Is it possible to repai...

Wanted - Ride the Divide DVD
My wifi download speed is making the film impossible to view.
Does anyone have a copy of the DVD either for sale or loan? Years ago the whole film was viewable on YouTube, I caught it back then, but I'm keen to see it again.

Re: Inspired to ride movie
I succeeded in a minor miracle last night and downloaded it. I rode the route in 2011 and recognised many of the points along the way. It is astonishing the daily mileages these guys were covering. As Mike Hall said, anyone that thinks that the Rockies are the toughest climbs on the route are mistak...

If there's the chance of a squint at the DVD, I'd happily make a donation to a charity. The wifi here is so poor a download would be near impossible.

I'm a warmshowers host, we see a handful of bike tourists every year. I've stayed with a couple of hosts in the U.S. and they were outstanding.
