Re: Cycling Apparel Brands - uni project research
the bikepackers made it a W-W thing via ITTs. But the ITT came before bikepacking? When JayP turned up to the 2007 GDR with bikepacking bags from Carousel Design Works, eveyone else with racks and backpacks had never seen such an obvious solution. Bikepacking wasn't even in the lexicon until the th...

Re: Cycling Apparel Brands - uni project research
I think bikepackers are the very antithesis of clubbable and may account for the recent suspicion of gravel biking as it seems to embrace roadie like group riding and the ensuing willy waving. Good point about gravel biking market growing, and no mainstream companies attaching themselves to bikepac...

Re: Cycling Apparel Brands - uni project research
Done But I am so much not your target market. Don’t tend to wear cycling gear for cycling and bikepacking. Only cycling gear I have is shorts and shoes. Rest is mainly outdoors gear. Have a couple of very old jerseys Thanks. Information like this is gold for my report though. It isn't really about ...

Re: Cycling Apparel Brands - uni project research
Actually, a question for Steve, are you only aiming the survey at bikepackers, or at cycling across the board? RIP, thanks for your earlier post, very helpful. I'll admit my purpose is not 100% defined. I'm finding my through somewhat. I already had about 10 people comment on earlier revisions, but...

Re: Cycling Apparel Brands - uni project research
Have to say that every academic survey I've filled out online recently has been proceeded by about 20 questions making sure I consent to my data being used, and then they usually ask again at the end. I thought this was mandatory, but this survey doesn't have them. Thanks, Chris. For note if you're...

Cycling Apparel Brands - uni project research
Hi, Wonder if I could ask you kind folks for some support with uni assignment (MBA) on market research? My query is whether the bikepacking market feels underserved and any brand or style preferences. https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/LGHJLHC 16 questions, mostly multiple choice or single word answer...

Re: New route, An Turas Mor
Sorry for going off topic, but maybe history is relevant in discussing An Turas Mor, and possible futures. The development of the websites and routes (HT550, CL, SSUK, PBW, LL200, circa 2012) was organic rather than planned to an ultimate vision. At the time these terms were discussed at length, and...

Re: New route, An Turas Mor
Yes & No; 'that' race, isn't a race. It just looks a lot like one...! Really, it's called the Highland Trail Race. Hi. Apologies, just by way of note though, the 'R' word isn't used on the Highland Trail website or in communications. HT550, or just Highland Trail. (Though I note it appears once...

Re: Help compiling a list of 2016 ITTs with group starts
Would it help to add a calendar page on the self-supported site for group starts? Something like the BP ultra racing calendar http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/ultra-racing/2016-ultra-racing-calendar-(sticky-thread)/ I'd like for the website to be a useful resource, so suggestions welcome. Though I w...

Re: Cairngorm loop grp depart 2016
Sorry for my tardiness in responding to those early entries. I could make up some excuse about being offline for November as I was climbing in Nepal, and hate sitting at my PC in the evening after work, but it might not cut it. Catching up with life now though. ScotRoutes, thanks for the route infor...

Re: Lakeland 200 - yet another ITT
A large part of setting these newer self-supported routes like Lakeland 200 was to enable Brits to have stuff to sufficiently prepare, physically and mentally, for the North American races or HT550. Riding across fields on old classics like the Pennine Bridleway and South Downs doesn’t cut it. I kno...

Re: Cage for fuel bottle advice needed
Any chance you can compromise with the medium bottle and a more robust lighter mounting? I've used the medium size with success. It's the same diameter almost as a standard water bottle so fits well. Traditional bottle cages with a 'lip' don't work so well. See pictures here of arrangement with a me...

Re: Which Waterproof gloves?
I have about 20 pairs of winter gloves, and I've owned a lot more, in the search for the waterproof one, the comfy one, the one that's easy to get on and off, that doesn't pull inside out etc. Climbing, skiing, biking. A couple of years ago I picked up some glacier gloves in Alaksa, made from neopre...

Re: EDMBR....?
Sure, I get what you want, and it's your vision. I just use the US because I don't know any other long distance races. Racing some long and short routes of different technical demand though I think would put you in a good position to design a ~3000 mile course. I was trying to highlight that any tra...

Re: EDMBR....?
Yes, you could describe the Divide Route as technically tame, but it is 2,700 mile long, and is pretty challenging. There are some easy sections, but they don’t seem to come for free, and some sections, although not 'technical', can be physically demanding with rough roads and climbing. A good 10 mi...

Re: EDMBR....?
This look pretty ambitious. The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route is an vaguely exciting trail, which has been well considered and planned. It took a lot of time and money by the Adventure Cycling Association (ACA) to map it out, and create something challenging yet achievable with basic backcountry ...

Re: Self-supported UK
EDIT: Steve has anyone actually told you what they'd like to see changed within the rules, to help combat this elitism ? Perhaps they'd like someone else to ride the bike up all the hills for them :? ;) Well, pretty much that there is a rule-set, rather than a specific item in it. I think personall...
