My advice would be just to get out and ride and enjoy yourself. A completion is as much in your head as in your legs. Before October I'd make sure: I'd have completed a 100k off road ride Gotten lost/unlost on tracks I haven't ridden before Pick routes where bike-a-hike is involved A few nights out...
