I use one of thesehttp://www.bicyclehero.com/gb/bicyclehe ... tJwoZqYbIU
Not the last word in bike security but enough to put off the opportunist and compact enough to fit in a pocket

Re: Your 'goals' for the coming year.
Only got into this bike packing malarkey properly last year and only managed 2 trips. Definitely gonna try for a bivvy a month next year. Also got a 2 day trip planned and a leisurely 3 day ride of TCW.

I also received a diddy alpkit stove along with some other goodies. As I type this I'm sat under a rig7 tarp set up across 2 sofas, the stove is on the table boiling up enough water for a brew and I'm seeing how much stuff I can fit in a possum top tube bag.

Re: Wildcat Tiger
maybe not. Current set up is 13l dry bag strapped to the seat and a 20l back pack. The bag strapped to the seat is little unstable and I want to get more kit off my back and on the bike. I've ordered a top tube bag and a tiger so was hoping the 13l would fit in the tiger

Wildcat Tiger
Am I wrong or did they used to do a large as well as small and medium? Couldn't find any sign of it on their site if so. Has anyone managed to get a drybag larger than 8 litre to fit comfortably in a medium?

Re: Down bags
When researching down bags I came across down quilts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdoRoJDXTuw just looks like a sleeping bag without a zip to me. Common sense tells me it suits warmer climes but can't help wondering if I've missed the point.

That looks brilliant. Is this just going to be a one off for yourself or are you thinking of going into production? I'd buy one!

Re: Down bags
Thanks for the replies, think I'll stay with what I've got until size/weight becomes an issue. On a related note, at what point does a quilt become a valid alternative to a bag?

Down bags
I've been looking at down filled sleeping bags. I currently have a 3 season synthetic bag that I've never been cold in (I don't do winter wild camping) that I paid £70 for. If it gets damp I air it out for a while and it's fine. When I want to wash it I chuck it in the machine then peg it on the lin...

Re: Emergency SMS
Not heard of this but somebody told me some time ago that 999 calls will search for, and use, another network if a signal can't be found on your own network. No idea of the details though.

Re: attaching dry bags to the bike
Thanks all. I went for the airlok extra because they have the "lugs" sewn on to make them easier to strap on.
Jamiep - you got a link? If not what should I type in the search box as everything I try brings up stuff either not what I want or rediculouisly expensive.

attaching dry bags to the bike
Hi all, newbie here so firstly hello and thanks for having me. I've bivvy'd and wild camped a few times over the years, just never put it together with the bike so looking forward to getting some bikepacking in this year. I've had an alpkit gourdon 20 for a whille and like it. I've just oredered a c...
