Re: Tour Divide 2025

Days of no real views dont seem that enticing tbh. People.... Meeting other racers is always great. I dont know if id enjoy meeting the locals, unfortunately im not a fan of US culture and its products. I had a milkshake thrown at me from a pick up in New Mexico but apart from that everyone was fri...

Re: Tour Divide 2025

Not trying to talk myself out of it, but is it really as insanely good as people describe it? It's difficult enough to put together a good 300km route, 1000km+ routes can be a bit meh in places....arent there days on TD where the scenery is just the same for an eternity? (which I guess it's part of...

It covers the necessary range required for top flight XC and Marathon riders looking to shave thousandths off their lap times. Thats the yardstick to measure it against.

Re: Powerbanks and Battery Anxiety

For what it's worth, bearing in mind my info is a good few years old but Garmin did not recommend the use of rechargeable batteries in the early eTrex range. I think when fully charged a rechargeable cell delivers 1.2v under load whereas a non rechargeable Duracell or similar will start off at 1.5v...

Fox Ranger Gel are my current favourite. Tried some Endura after my last pair of Fox gloves wore out but also found the velcro was absolutely useless.

Re: Lochan na h-Earba pump storage hydro scheme

 Years ago, I was at some conference or other where someone stated that renewable energy schemes would only work if we reduced power consumption significantly. This was well before someone had the bright idea of running cars off electricity. The mitigating factor there is that the 5kwh you use...

Re: Lochan na h-Earba pump storage hydro scheme

I get that Johnnny but you end up with most of the power going to the areas of highest population density i.e. the southern half of the country. With the closure of all the coal schemes the majority of power generation is now in the northern part of the country and that's starting to stick in peopl...

Re: Lochan na h-Earba pump storage hydro scheme

Pity it will be privately owned and most of the electricity will head for the south of England. I'd be a lot more supportive of such things if the power was used locally (i.e within 200 miles) so at least we get the benefit as well as the environmental impact. It'll be load balancing the National G...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...

I've got a rockbros one. I'm not fussed about having a gauge as I always do the squeeze test. I'll carry it as well as a pump, it's nice to have when sorting a foul weather or roadside flat.

Re: Garmin changes inbound

I do, Strava has gradually removed core functionality and plasters my feed with ads, challenges and info about people I don't know. Garmin on the other hand gives me all the ride data without (for now!) anyy upsell. Hopefully the blurb above is correct that paying for the service gains features, rat...

Re: Mini Foot Pumps

I've got one of the Topeaks and a Lezyne HV (from when I had a fat bike). The lezyne looks fancier but the gap between the handle and the pump body is a bit tight so can squash your hands if you aren't careful. The Topeak is the better pump, both the ergonomics and the pump head.

Like Whitestone I have them for rapid inflation when the weather is horrible else I'll use a normal pump. I did get a mini usb rechargeable for my birthday which will probably take the place of CO2 for me if it works well.

Miranda cranks pop up a lot on the eBike forums as short crank specialists. I think they do regular bike cranks as well.

I've got both and would recommend them. If you use a seatpack it could cause some problems if the straps go around the pivots.
