You
I've got a wildcat one. 2nd one actually, as the first one got eaten by a very large rat. Anyway, I love the fact the zip doesn't get strained however, the tt does need to be taped as I have a bit of a groove in the paint on the very end of front of the tt where the tape was 10mm or so too short.

Re: Wildlife

BAM before last, I'm lying in my bivvi. I'm propped up on one arm, somewhere between awake and the land of nod, tucked in behind a stone cross close to the summit of small, steep sided hill, on a triangular patch of flat ground next to a field of maize. The sounds of dusk in rural France permeate th...

Re: Pan Celtic 2023

I had a very brief chat with one of the riders who was loading up on carbs in the kebab shop at Josselin. I had a quick look at the route, it seemed to be mainly tarmac oriented. Good weather for it that week though. NIce and cool.
It's a lot warmer now, with high humidity.

I was using smoove.
Now using squirt as it is more readily available where I live.
They seem to be much of a muchness.
I generally reapply after every 3 rides, so, 250km is.

This is the sort of bike that i love to see It does all seem to have come full circle though. Didn't gravel bikes come from this sort of cobbled together creation? Touring bikes with knobbly tyres, cross bikes with brown saddles and some lower gearing. Monster crossers, wool shirts.MTBs with super l...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

January bivvi completed on Saturday night. Rendezvoused with my cycling buddy at St Malo des trois fountains. From there we rode to Loyat, then picked up the off road doubletrack route to Trehoronteuc. From there, a short sharp climb with hike a bike up to the bivvi spot- a recently scorched outcrop...

Re: Do you remember your first time?

My first bikepacking trip was with a buddy in 1988 maybe 89. We spent a week or so riding rigid MTBs on the Cornish coast path from Bude to Falmouth, carrying very little and overnighting in youth hostels.
We survived on chips, coke, bananas and tracker bars.

Re: PBP - anyone planning on entering?

I had to sleep 15km from the Arrive last time as fell asleep on the bike riding along a village, I sat down in the sun in a gateway and nodded off for 15 mins or so. I was awoken with a tap on the shoulder, the owner I thought wanted to open her gate so i apologised profusely, she said no, no I hav...

Currently enduring a major mojo slump.
The passing of the solstice usually puts the meaningless futility of existence in a slightly better light.
I may get a little bike ride in.
There will be a roasted something to eat.
There will probably be lego.

Mattress recommendation

My exped synmat has blown a couple of baffles whilst being deployed on January BAM and is now decidedly wonky. According to Exped HQ the LOT number identifies it as being 8 years old so I guess it's had a fair innings. Can anyone recommend me a durable, insulated inflatable mattress? I am 173cm, 80 ...

Re: Anyone miss a triple?

Maybe miss them a bit yeah. My retro bike still runs an LX triple. Although, all those years ago I nearly always used to ditch the outer chainring. Better ground clearance of somefing. These days the bike I ride the most, runs a 46/31 which I like a lot. So um, no not unless it's a proper 26" m...
