Re: WTD bar end plugs to go under slide on grips
If they're the type of grip which covers the end of the bar, you can just stick a coin in there to solve the problem.

Re: Sliding Bike Rack
Thanks everyone, it's fun to use. They do swing and rotate a bit, so it's not without flaws. You can get trolley with a threaded attachment protruding, but the ones I linked with just have an open slot so you've got a lot of freedom with attachments. The threaded bar coats 2.80 a metre from Toolstat...

Re: Sliding Bike Rack
The hooks are just M8 threaded bar from Toolstation, washers a couple of locknuts with some deaf inner tube wrap and electrical tape to secure it. Looks pretty ok given the setting, although I can imagine the highly advanced bending technique I applied if 'chuck in vice and use an old seatpost to ge...

We get lots of abandoned bikes and ones that've been sitting in leaky sheds for months on end, no shortage of scars already for the most part.

Sliding Bike Rack
I volunteer at a bike coop. We installed this beast recently. The rack uses sliding gate hardware so we can move the bike side to side easily and 'file' through our various offerings. It allows much easier access to the bikes, much more compact storage than other optinos (if you're not fussed about ...

WTD: Busted Hollowtech Cranks to Hack Up
I've recently swapped out an enormous 30t for a much more sensible 26t for my 1x on the full susser. I therefore don't need the 94mm lugs on the chainring but I can't bring myself to hack up an otherwise decent set of cranks. If anyone wants to get rid of a set wherre the lugs are already rendered u...

Merlin have Deore 11-51 tooth 11 speed cassettes for £42 (HG) which seems extremely reasonable to me.

The sideswing front mechs don't need anything on the frame for the cable, they're such an improvement.

On the scrounge for some vintage mags.
I've got an odd request - do any of you have any goofy vintage MTB magazines you'd be happy parting with? I've been working with a bike coop* in Manchester and I'd like to get some ironically outdated reading material for when people are waiting for us to fix their bikes. I'm picturing a mountain bi...

Newby was there to climb Mir Samir (19880 feet) with his Diplomatic Service buddy Hugh Carless (who only died in 2011). On the way out they met with Wilfred Thesiger who declared them to be a couple of pansies for using sleeping mats. That bit stuck with me. I still struggle to picture a 1950s infl...

Re: What are you reading now?
Right now, The Works of Robert Burns , because. But I'm currently re-reading Rory Stewart's The Places In Between , having first read it probably 15 years ago, with no idea who he was or would become. Quite shocking how little I remember of it, but made it more enjoyable to re-read! Recommended. St...

Can you link to your bike trips? I have searched previously nd not found much. Here's a bikepacking trip I did with a friend back in 2016: https://cyclocaust.blogspot.com/2016/11/bikepacking-in-morocco-toubkal-national.html?m=1 It was a mostly mix of singletrack and gravel roads. We had to alter th...

Threading handlebars for storage?
How bad of an idea would it be to use a tap to add an internal thread (probably M20 based on the internal diameter of ~18.5mm) to a pair of aluminium mountain bike handlebars? I'd keep the depth pretty minimal, maybe 7mm. I want to knock up some handlebar storage units, and a threaded bar plug that ...

Re: Lakes 2 Day
In March, you're probably better basing a 3 day tour on a Jennride route, rather than the L200. Conditions can be harsh higher up in spring, even on an unloaded bike. Going over Jacobs Ladder, Edale is about 530m asl, whereas Angle Tarn to Styhead is 730m. There are hundreds of miles of great trail...
