Re: man cave build help

Im 'working' from my man cave today. Best thing about today was by chance my WRT 2012 tshirt had floated to the top of the clothes pile.

I can recommend the LED batten lights from Screwfix. Good quality natural light and plenty of it.

Re: recommend me some new disc brakes

I bought some Shimanos from Rose in Germany a couple of years ago. They were below Deore and didn't come with discs but aside from changing pads I've not had to touch them ... the very best bit is the fact that F&R were less than £45* *Yes that's for the pair :D £45 sounds amazing but they appe...

Re: recommend me some new disc brakes

Avid BB7 I have had a look at them but it would be about £120 for a pair which is in the same ball park as the deore ones. Are these cable better than hydro? I had some cable on an old bike years ago, they were easy to adjust but needed frequent tweeking and lubing to keep smooth. Are these a diffe...

recommend me some new disc brakes

I currently have Juicy 3 on my rockhopper but they are always misbehaving. They constantly rub despite servicing. So I am in the market for some new ones. Looking to spend 80-100 for a pair (or less). Not sure what size rotor but is 160 standard size. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Th...

I have something similar for kayaking. They are the best thing that I have bought for kayaking, as before I was getting too cold to enjoy the winter white water. I would think that these would be great too.

I was at 62lbs and I must have had 10lbs of food left at the end of the ride.

I did have a nice big tent and tea and cake.

Things that worked: Everyone looked at my heavy bike an thought "what a wally, he's got far to much weight". However each evening when I sat in my dry clothes, eating like a king sat in a 3 person tent (shared with two others) I was feeling very smug. At no point did I get cold or wet apar...

Re: WRT 2012 - Thanks

Just a quick line to say thanks to everyone who helped make this event so enjoyable. The grid references we went through were well thought out and fun. We especially liked the slog through the bog and midge infested woods. The best hill by far was the cake mountain back at the farm house. It was nic...

For 5 days/4 nights, inc the WRT: Quite a lot of stuff, but I ride to camp, not camp to ride . Planning on restocking food on Sunday, either in Llanwchllyn or (more likely) Dolgellau. I was thinking that I will be the only person turning up with more than a spare inner tube, a role of tin foil and ...

That looks a bit Heath Robinson but if it works then fine. Have you used one?

For the weight worriers, the Next Best Thing is susposed to weigh 26 grams.

Broken spokes and Cassette removal - interesting tool

I have always wondered how people replace broken spokes on the rear drive side. For most wheels you would have to remove the cassette. I have a tool that will remove the cassette without a chain whip, but what are the other options? I have not used it in the field but I have tried it out and it work...

Re: BYOG bar bag carrying products

Tim, That's a crazy angle you've got your brake levers set at - almost straight down! Is that because of the bar bag or just your usual set-up? Yes thats so that the bag does not rub against the brake levers. It was very wierd to start with but now it is fine. The irritating bit is the angle of the...

Re: BYOG bar bag carrying products

I have done something very similar but with bar ends. I was worried that I cannot see the front wheel, but the reality was that once I got on the trails I didnt notice it. You might have more luck securing it under the bars. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8165/7240329478_88fc73e5a6.jpg and here is th...

What a great idea. I like Alpkit stuff it has been good from what I have experianced. The customer service is second to none! As an bonus to Alpkit they will be given templates for loads of frames. Hopefully this will allow them to make a few standard bags that fit more than one frame. This would ke...

Re: broken bike :(

Quick update on the bike. Argos bikes were great, they fixed the bike on the same day. It cost £20 becuase he had to drill the bolt out and re tap an m6 thread. The reason for this is that the bit of the broken bolt that was not stuck had been bouncing in the hole and had damaged the tread. The plac...

Re: broken bike :(

I have phoned Argos bikes in Brisol and they think that it would cost about a tenner. Compared to the cost of buying a bolt extractor and bits it seems quite cheap. I think that I will take it over to them tomorrow morning.

Thanks for your advice though, it has not quite fallen on deaf ears.

I work in the center of Bristol just off of College Green but I live in Bradford On Avon. I think that it is an m4 but would have to check.

I am normally very hands on, but with this I am hesitant because if I get it wrong then no one will be able to fix it.
