Re: Dynamo / light / GPS charging question
Have a look here on Robs blog. He has a few links to the wire bits http://robdeanhove.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/racing-on-dynamo-charging-my-gps-bright.html Or just buy a Revo, and the Exposure boost cable. The boost cable plugs into the smart port and, during the day, can charge your GPS instead of p...

Re: Calling Any Electronics/Garmin Experts
It's probably worth caveating that last post by adding that this is NOT a good solution for a dynamo light, where the power loss will matter a lot more. It's also not clear what the multiple small cycles will do for your battery life, if you use it with a light, but it certainly won't help it! Oh, a...

Re: Calling Any Electronics/Garmin Experts
My friend had the same problem. The data pin trick often works for fussy devices, but it didn't for him, and we ended up using the smallest, lightest USB buffer battery to prevent this happening. Something like this should work just fine: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silver-Lipstick-USB-2200mAh-Portabl...

Re: Dynamo hubs and accessories!
There are several things about the Revo that make it better than the competition, but the main feature, that makes it better than all of them, is the standlight, which makes it the only dynamo light I'd ever consider for off road use, or even touring. The main alternate option is the Supernova E3 Tr...

Re: Dynamo hubs and accessories!
It was me! I was using the Exposure Revo light, 800lumens and a kick ass standlight, see here: http://www.exposurelights.com/product/000098/revo-dynamo-mk1-(new)/ I also had a little charger wired in in parallel and a switch to divert the hub power to the charger during the daytime, to keep my Edge ...

Re: Very interesting - dynamo content.
Having raced on an early light in the EWE, I have just got my hands on a proper, production, Exposure Revo, it's available in the shops and everything. I'll be riding with it at the BB200 this weekend, assuming I can get my kit together and get myself to the start by 10am Saturday!

Re: Very interesting - dynamo content.
Nice job Rob ... that's a very neat set-up. It's got to be the way forward for multi-day trips/races. Cheers. It's the way forwards for everything! Not just multi-day. No more dipping your lights to a low setting to conserve battery life on mid-week night rides, or charging your lights regularly fo...

Re: Very interesting - dynamo content.
It's been a long time coming, but here it is, production dynamo light, the Exposure Revo. Brighter than the triple shown in London and the standlight charges quicker and lasts longer. Also powers the standard Exposure Redeye rear light, that was designed to run with their battery light. My productio...

Re: Pennine Bridalway
Well, having ridden the Southern section from Middleton Top, up to Summit, round the MTL and back down again a couple of weeks ago (report here: http://bit.ly/L5wemu ); over the bank holiday I just did the Northern section, from Calderdale up to Kirkby Stehpen. Having never ridden it before, I'd say...

Steve Heading has had a go at the northern section, he thought it was a 2 day ride too, but he started at Middleton top! Well, he is a bit good isn't he? See here: http://www.whytebikes.com/wp-whyte/?p=3148 Another friend is planning it (the whole route) over a hard two days, and he has bought that ...

Re: Very interesting - dynamo content.
what you really need is for multiple people to be testing it simultaneously. if only there were a place where these perfect test subjects could be found..... Hopefully, for those looking at this and thinking "I wish I had one of those, but I wonder how well it's been tested", I share a ho...

Re: Very interesting - dynamo content.
Thanks for the comments guys. For now the light will be a light. There are plenty of dynamo powered USB chargers on the market so I dont want to increase the complexity, size, weight and cost of my light by including one for now. If you must charge your phone or GPS a separate unit is a good solutio...

Re: Very interesting - dynamo content.
Quick progress update: I have an agreement to work with someone to get this onto the shelves this summer.
More to be revealed soon, we just need to write (and agree!) a proper press release type thing.
I am VERY excited about this :D

Re: Trans Cambrian Way Double?
going by current recording standards used for things like the SDD, no-one has published details of their time for the single that stands up to external scrutiny I took a GPS on my SDD, but there's an unwritten rule not to publicise single times. Anyone can do a single and it's a case of how fast ca...

Re: Ceramic Wheel Bearings
Careful! It is important to distinguish between a full ceramic and a hybrid ceramic component. A full ceramic bearing, with cages and balls, will not be tough enough for a MTB application. You'll want to limit yourself to hybrid ceramic bearings with ceramic balls and steel races. This comes from t...

Re: Carbon for a bikepacking bike?
I happily use my Highball, and enjoyed every second of the Mach 'n Back on it. I've never been too precious, as I figure I spent all that effort getting a nice bike that was a capable tool, so shouldn't have to nanny it like a £50 Halfords bike. It's not failed me yet (and neither have I stopped lov...

Looking forward to seeing your gear choice for next year - perhaps a 36T cassette sprocket with a 20T granny up front?!

Yet another "thank you" from me and Grace. It was our first bikepacking event, and with little practice at the art we were a little unsure how we'd fare. It was a truly great way to spend a weekend and we'll definitely be back for more. We can't wait for next year's event. In the mean time...

Best Kit Decision - The pint of milk I carried around all Saturday for properly nice porridge and milk in our coffee on Sunday morning. Yes, we could have carried dried milk powder, but I'd still have had to carry the water to turn it back to milk up the last hill. Worst Kit Decision - carrying a p...

I'm working on getting the deanamo out there. Re: Very interesting - dynamo content.
Wow, thanks for noticing what I've been up to with the Deanamo :-) I started out making a dynamo light as I commute on or off road every day and, coupled with regular mid-week rides and weekend longer rides, I just got bored of always charging lights and worrying about battery burn times. This now g...
